In the context of Lebanon’s Beirut Blast in 2020, this article examines how scholar-activists sustained collective action during an ongoing crisis, developing a process model that extends resourcing theory through the concepts of embodied agency, critical reflection, and collective healing.
In light of the Mediterranean’s stubborn gender gaps in labour participation, this policy study brings together perspectives from Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, and beyond to unpack how education, digital access, employer practices, and legal frameworks shape women’s economic inclusion, calling for coordinated reform across governments, business, and civil society.
Daouk-Öyry, L., Karam, C. M., & Geha, C. (2026). The institutional work of scholar activism as collective healing in creeping crises. International Review of Psychiatry, 1–13.
Drawing on a reflexive analysis of their own experience as scholar-activists amid Lebanon’s overlapping crises — the October 17 revolution, economic collapse, COVID-19, and the 2020 Beirut port blast — this article theorizes scholar activism as a form of institutional work, identifying five interconnected subprocesses through which purposive and relational action generates collective healing within an academic community.
Daouk-Öyry, L., Afiouni, F., Ghazzawi, R., & Alhaffar, H. (2025). The Role of HRM in Building Resilience: The Relationality Imperative in Times of War. Human Resource Management Journal, 35(4), 833–849.
Using a resource-based lens grounded in conservation of resources theory, this study explores how organizations protected, gained, and retained employees as their most valuable resources amid the extreme context of the Syrian civil war, uncovering the relational mechanisms through which HR departments built resilience for both employees and the organization.
